Process Of Setting

Written by cauliflowers.org

Around three to four plants per person a year are set in the fields when they are six weeks old. The seeds are sown six weeks before they set the plants in the fields.

Each plant is set about 18" apart in rows that are 30" apart. Farmers set cauliflower during the spring time. Because it grows much the same way that cabbage grows many farmers will plant the cauliflower ten days after the cabbage has been planted.

During the transplant farmers make sure that the cauliflower stays well watered so that they do not wilt. It is important that farmers make sure that no harm comes to the plant during the transplant process because this could damage the development of the head.

If you are growing your own cauliflower make sure to add one cup of fertilizer to about twelve quarts of water. You should stir the mixture together and then let is sit for a few hours. After you set the plant you need to use a cup of the solution and water the roots.
