Planting Cauliflower

Written by cauliflowers.org

Cauliflower is a cool season veggie that is grown in the high altitude areas. However, some people are able to successfully grow cauliflower in their home gardens. There are a few types of crops that need grow without any interruptions or else they will grow a small head. Farmers find no use in small heads and lose money when this happens.

To avoid any delay the soil must have a high concentration of organic matter - which will hold a lot of moisture. When cauliflower is grown for commercial use they often use good clover sod. Those growing cauliflower at home should make sure that the area where it will be grown in their garden has enough manure.

The soil that the cauliflower grows in is sweet and has a pH level of 6.5. The fertile soil needs to have 2000 pounds of commercial fertilizer per acre or about 5 pounds for every 100 square feet. The fertilizer must be spread and well worked into the soil at least a week before the cauliflower is planted.
