Buying A Nice Cauliflower

Written by cauliflowers.org

Wherever you go to buy your cauliflower, supermarket, grocery store and even from a far, you need to check for certain attributes if you want to get a good cauliflower worth eating.

The head of your chosen cauliflower should be nice a thick, with the florets all tightly packed together and resplendent in creamy white (unless you're buying an orange or purple cauliflower, or one with a green head that is actually crossed with a broccoli). The head looks a bit like a brain and, just like a brain, it should be heavier than it looks. Also, when you pick it up, you should not notice any wilting on the surrounding leaves, they should be fresh and vividly green!

If you notice that the florets, the white bits, are even a little bit brown then leave that cauliflower alone, it is no good to you. If you feel any spots underneath the cauliflower head that are a bit soft or mushy this is also a sign of a cauliflower turning bad, put it back at once!

Sometimes you may find that the cauliflower head has started flowering, which it is overripe and not so good for eating.
